Sedation Dentistry

Millions of people suffer from dental anxiety that prevents them from seeking even the most basic care. Over time, dental problems multiply, and soon we’re looking at multiple treatments just to get your oral health back on track.

Everyone has their own reason for their fear; for some, it’s the sights, sounds, and smells of a dental office. For you, it may be as simple as a strong gag reflex or as complex as a bad dental experience early in life.

At Vienna Family Dental, our goal is to support your efforts to maintain a healthy smile in any way necessary. We offer gentle care and calming sedation methods because we want to make it possible for you to relax and get the treatment you need.

We Start with Gentle, Compassionate Care

Our experienced team takes the time to listen to your concerns so we can understand what you need to have a stress-free experience with us. You would be surprised how much better you will feel by just talking to us about your fears!

We understand that one of the reasons many people avoid dental visits is because they fear injections. Dr. Rudulph and Dr. Paino have decades of experience in providing our patients with gentle, pain-free injections, and many of them report that it was the most comfortable injection they ever had.

You will be surrounded by attentive and caring professionals who respond to your needs. We offer calming amenities like TVs, blankets, and pillows. Our noise-canceling headphones allow you to drift off peacefully while we work to improve your oral health.

Calming Sedation Options

We are pleased to offer several sedation methods that can be tailored to your needs. Our doctors and professional team are qualified and trained in the use of these methods to ensure your complete safety.

Nitrous Oxide

We are pleased to offer sedation with nitrous oxide, a gas that’s mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a comfortable nasal mask. Nitrous will make you feel slightly euphoric and detached from your surroundings. You will remain awake and able to respond to questions, but you will feel very calm and comfortable.

Our busy patients appreciate the fact that nitrous leaves no lingering after-effects. You will be able to resume your usual daily activities immediately after you leave our office.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation is another option to consider if your anxiety is more intense. A calming medication will be prescribed for you to take about an hour before your appointment. You will arrive at our office feeling very calm and relaxed, and some people even drift off during their procedure. However, oral sedation stays in your system for several hours, so you will need a friend to get you to and from your appointment.

IV Sedation

If you prefer deep sedation or are scheduled for multiple dental procedures in one visit, we recommend IV sedation. Since the calming medication is injected directly into your bloodstream, the effects are immediate. You won’t be “knocked-out,” but you will be semi-conscious and able to respond to your dental team.

We will monitor your vital signs throughout your procedure, and most patients have no memory of what occurred while they were sedated.
