General Dentistry
Regular dental cleanings and exams (two per year!) are vital to ensure long-term dental health. It’s during these visits that your dentist gets an opportunity to thoroughly clean your teeth and identify and address minor issues before they become serious problems.
What Should One Expect From Routine Cleaning and Exam?
- An examination of your head and neck to ensure that your jaw and lymph nodes seem normal and healthy
- X-rays of your mouth to give your dentist a holistic picture of the state of your dental health
- An examination of the inside of your mouth to check for cavities, loose or broken fillings, cracked teeth, and early signs of gum disease or oral cancer
- The actual cleaning, during which, using special tools, your dentist will remove plaque and tartar from the surfaces of your teeth and apply a treatment to help prevent future plaque and tartar buildup
After the cleaning is finished, your dentist will discuss with you any potential issues (cavities, etc.) that they found that must be addressed, suggest improvements to your oral hygiene routine, and schedule any necessary follow-up appointments.
